We believe that love is the foundation for a brighter world, and it grows when it is shared. As we continue to explore different ways to share love, we come across philautia, or self-love. We always talk about sharing love and making magical moments for those around us. However, oftentimes we forget to take time for ourselves and prioritize our own wellbeing. At the end of the day, you’re your own true love…for life!
Here are a few simple ways that you can practice a whole week of self-love:
Monday: Get your body moving
Exercise releases endorphins which is known to reduce stress! Whether you go to the gym for a lifting session, go on a nice long walk during your lunch break, or do an at-home workout, your mind and body will greatly benefit.
Tuesday: Cook or order your favorite meal
Good food can work wonders for the soul. Break out your family cookbook and whip up your favorite meal from childhood. Order takeout from your local sushi restaurant and enjoy it from the comfort of your own home. Go out and support a local restaurant. Fueling your body with quality food is a priority!
Wednesday: Practice self-care Do something that makes you feel good! Get a massage, get your nails done, take a hot bath—whatever relaxes you. You don’t always have to spend money for self-care, but it’s also okay to invest in yourself and your wellbeing—don’t feel guilty about it!
Thursday: Put on an outfit that makes you feel confident
Sometimes, all it takes is a quick outfit change to up your confidence. Look at yourself in the mirror and pick three things to compliment aside from the amazing outfit that you’re currently wearing. “Wow I have a great smile!” “My legs look so strong!” “I’m thankful for all that my body does for me!”
Friday: Rest and relax
You made it through the week! Take the evening to decompress and wind down from the chaos that may have come from your work week. Read a new book, watch your favorite TV show, play a board game—anything to shift your mindset from work to the weekend!
Saturday: Do something for someone else
Yes, there is a feel-good part of self-love that comes from making a difference in someone else’s life. Volunteer at your local animal shelter or soup kitchen. Buy your best friend some flowers, just because! Go through your clothes and donate the ones you don’t wear anymore. Do something that’s bigger than yourself, it will give you a great sense of community. Sunday: Reflect on your week and get ready to restart
Break out the journal! Write down things that went well this week and things that you’d like to improve on. Record the ordinary joys and gratitudes you experienced. Write down happy memories that were made that you can look back on. Organize your schedule for the following week so that you can prepare for any upcoming plans.
Self-love is super important! We all need to be conscious about putting ourselves first sometimes, especially amidst the last year of crazy. With constantly changing schedules, adapting to working from home, and oftentimes periods of isolation, remember that you are always worth the time and effort! Written for The Lovepop Journal
